Sword mounting of hokey type and blade. Known as `chiyo-gane-maru' Mounting: 16-17th cent. Blade

This is the ancestral sword of the Sho royal family. According to the Ryukyuan history book "KYUYO," the king of the northern area committed suicide with this sword when he lost in a war against the king of the central area in 1416. Its blade was flat style and does not have an inscription. It is assumed to be made in Japan by its temper pattern along the cutting edge. The scabbard is covered with gold, and chrysanthemum pattern and a word "TAISEI" is engraved on the pommel. The sword is designed to use with one-hand, which is different from the typical Japanese style of swords.
